May 2020 CoVid-19 Update
Every day the Anova team rallies around our core purpose to support women and children who are victims of violence and to work towards a world where everyone can live without fear of violence. This is as important as ever during times when movement is restricted and previously safe spaces are no longer available for women and their children.
In fact, it’s vitally important that women who need support know they can continue to rely on Anova, because we know that violence can increase with isolation. It’s also important that our community of supporters knows how they can best support our mission, even during these times.
Anova is committed to the effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and is determined to provide support for abused women, their children and survivors of sexual violence during this time.
In support of this fierce commitment, our Crisis and Support Line remains open and continues to be monitored 24/7. Additional steps to protect clients, staff and volunteers include temporarily suspending or altering programs and offering telephone support. As well, protocols including increased cleaning and infection control measures across sites, social distancing practices, screening for client intake, current clients and service providers and temporarily suspending material donations (eg food, clothing) while financial gifts are gratefully accepted, and needed.
As the COVID-19 situation evolves and new guidelines and recommendations are released by government and medical officers of health, Anova will expand program and service offerings to meet the needs of clients while maintaining safety as it relates to COVID-19. Additionally, as programs and services open, there will be increased opportunities for supporters to once again give to the cause with material donations and time.
